1,500 miles away…

The fall semester of my freshman year, when I came to the Northeast I realized that there were some things that were going to have to change. When looking at colleges in high school I looked at schools with certain criteria. I looked at small liberal arts institutions. When I came across Lafayette, I absolutely fell in love and realized that this was the best fit for me.

Being 1,500 miles away has served as an awakening to shape the person I am today. I have learned to be self-sufficient, analytical and assertive. When I came to Pennsylvania with the support of my family and three suit cases, I instantly entered a new world where I learned to be independent. Of course, I still had my family right behind me every step of the way but there were times when I felt alone.B eing at Lafayette I learned how to do a lot of things on my own.  In terms of an academic setting I learned how to critically analyze different works. I learned how to properly make an assertion and be able to provide sufficient evidence.

Although being away from home was difficult at times I was able to manage and make the best of this situation. Being at Lafayette has been the best experience I’ve had and my advice to anyone considering schools out of state os tjat there is much to look forward to – new friendships, personal growth and also you get to have a new home. I am proud to call Lafayette my home away from home.
